My Dear Friend Hank
I met Hank about 51 years ago in 6th grade he lived one block down the street from me if I wasn’t at his house he was at mine. Henry was always so fun to be around he could make a joke of any situation, so funny. After High School we kind went our own ways. We got together on occasions. He was always the same Hank, he never changed. I loved him like a brother. If I did not call him on his Birthday, I would fill so bad because I knew he would be upset and hurt if I didn’t think of him. I loved him so much even though I didn’t  show it like I should have. Sorry for the mean pranks I pulled on him, but he did more than his share on me when we where younger. Phyllis and Phillip I am here like a brother-in-law and uncle if you need anything. Love You All!

I met Hank at Fresno High in 1973.....he had a contagious laugh, love to tell jokes and a big smile even back then.....Great Memories and will be truly missed by his family...

I have really good memories of Henry. He had a great sense of humor and was a really caring man. He was very positive even when he was so ill and in pain. My thoughts and prayers are with Henry and his family at this most difficult time. May he RIP.

Hendry, Buddy, My dear, we didn’t get to say goodbye. Our hearts hurt and we will miss you dearly.  Thank you for sharing your time with us and leaving us with some fun memories..... Vegas, Pismo, Lake Tahoe, that last minute free flight weekend to Reno to name a few.  The Niner games we shared at each other’s houses, we fought during MLB season, you loved your Giants, we loved our Dodgers. The numerous 4th of July BBQs at your place.  You were serious when you needed to be and funny when YOU wanted to be. 
 We realize now, this last year has been harder for you than anyone knows.   May you rest in Paradise dear friend. until we meet again. 
Phyllis and Phillip, we will continue to be here for you two and we will keep making memories.

Henry, Hank, Hanky and beloved brother, he was all these things to me and more.  To say I will miss him is an understatement – I grieve for his loss and have a huge hole in my life.  His personality was “larger than life” and he had a thirst for a knowledge for EVERYTHING.  Hank never met a stranger and everyone who met him – adored him.  His humor was always over the top, his stories entertaining and even when he was serious – mostly about sports, these were traits that made him special.  That was my little brother – even though I would kiddingly introduce him as “My older brother, Hank”.   He will always live in our hearts and we will always be talking about “Remember when Hank did this or said that”… and share our memories and love with someone so dear and who left us too soon.

I remember him being the Nicest person with a good ❤️. I miss you already ‘Cuz... R.I.P. because I know for sure now you are no longer in pain. You lived a good life, Now let god handle the rest. We love you forever!

I've know Philip since high school and knowing his family for almost 30 years he's my 2nd brother and homie I'm still stunned about the call Henry passed away last time I've seen Henry when he was at hospital. After work at IRS I stop by visit him and talk about how I'm doing and talked about my father who passed away February 2 last year and I cried tell story how my dad was. Ill always miss Henry his laughter and since of humor of course 49ers and Giants fans. For my family Heredia/Hernandez will truly miss Henry RIP love you and I bet your talking to my dad in heaven but see you soon 😢 

Hank was full of positive energy when I would see him and he always had a smile on his face.  Anytime my family had a gathering and I was in town I always asked to see if we invited Hank and Phylis! Although we didn’t see much of each other after I moved, when we did it was like I never left. I’ll never forget that smile, that laugh  or that really cool Green Corvette that we always talked about.  Last time I saw Hank I got to show him my new car and he was so happy for me. It was like I got my own  green corvette but it was a Gray SS Camaro! He sat in it and revved the engine. His smile was huge just like the love I felt from him when we would talk. I’ll never forget you Hank and will miss you deeply. I’ll miss those conversation. RIP Hank! Love you!

Henry passed away on April 7, 2020 he was a lifelong resident of Fresno, Ca
Henry graduated Fresno High in 1975. He married his wife Phyllis in January 1977.
Their son Phillip was born the same year. Phillip was his JOY in life. They both shared a passion for NFL football, SF 49ers!
He loved to BBQ, 70’s & 80’s music, car shows, talking and laughing, watching TV, and just hanging out with friends who he considered family. He was blessed with so many friends and their parents who called him Brother, Uncle, Son, My Dear and Hendry.
Henry was very hard working man. His career began at KFC where he met his Love Phyllis. Later he worked for Kenney and Gallenkamp Shoes in 1985 began working for Mid-Valley Distributors retiring in October 2019 making not friends but family. 
Henry was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Rodriguez Zavala. He will be deeply missed by his father Henry Zavala SR, his wife of 43 years Phyllis Martinez Zavala, and his son Phillip Zavala all of Fresno. 
Henry is survived by his brother Richard Gamino, his partner Connie Rose of Pflugerville Tx, brothers David Zavala his wife Priscilla, and Arthur Zavala, his sister Ramona Barcena her husband Albert all of Fresno CA and Godchildren, Nieces and Nephews.
Private service at Lisle Funeral Home on Monday 4-13-2020 Private burial at Fresno Memorial Gardens on Tuesday 4-14-2020 A celebration of Henry’s Life will be scheduled when it is safe for us to gather.
