Long time Fresno resident, Jake Sarkisian passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013 at age 89. He was born on October 19, 1924 in Del Rey, Ca. Jake grew up in Sanger and attended Sanger High School, leaving to enlist in the United States Navy in 1943, where he proudly served in the Navy Armed Guards in the Pacific during WWII. After discharge from the service in 1946, he returned to the Fresno area. He worked for many years for local Firestone and Uniroyal tire dealers, and went on to work 10 years for Rich's Bakery before retiring in 1987.
He will be fondly remembered for his love of family, expert woodworking skills, and friendly nature with all he met.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sonia Sarkisian; his sons, Dennis and his wife, Robbie, and David and his wife Becky; granddaughter, Amelia; grandson, Philip; and many nieces and nephews. Jake
was a father figure to many, especially nephews Richard and Steven and niece Annmarie.
A Funeral Service will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Ararat Cemetery.
