James Clarence Bopp was born on March 26th,1940. He was the middle child of William and Martha Bopp, Biola raisin farmers. He peacefully passed into Heavens' Glory on August 21st, 2024, having spent his 84
years near the banks of the San Joaquin river. He grew up playing among the rows of vines and on the river. Jim loved the outdoors, learning to hunt and fish and as he grew, he also learned the value of hard work.
Jim attended Barstow elementary and then Central High school, while also participating in celebrations of his Volga-German heritage. In later years, Jim would vividly recount Maypole dances, accordion music and feasting on copious amounts of German sausage ,Verenigs and Berrocks. At Central, it was Sock Hops, Soda Pop, Basketball and Woodshop that were the heart of his High School days, and it was there that he met Virginia "Tinker" Ollenberger, whom he would marry & father two daughters with.
Jim went to work after High School as a Sheet Metal Worker, alongside his big brother Bill, and they both joined the Union. Jim would have a successful career, first at Conditioned Air, then New England Sheet Metal. He retired at 55 years of age, having successfully worked on or overseen many successful projects.
Jim was a life support system for a Sweet Tooth: To the end of his time on earth, he would consume a bag of Snickers weekly, with no physical effect. His blood suger would remain low, & he never gained a pound.
Jim liked the bands Chicago, the Bee Gees, Styx and Foreigner.
Jim liked the San Francisco Giants, 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors
Jim liked to hunt and fish.
Jim liked his recliner and his remote.
Jim liked to make things with his hands.
Jim liked his garden; tomatoes, peppers and strawberries.
Jim loved bacon and Snickers bars.
Jim like to keep his life simple.
Jim loved his daughters.
Jims' love for his girls was unconditional. His firstborn Jamie and baby Shelli were the light of his life. After they grew up and married, he stayed in close contact with both of them. Jim was a man of few words, but he always expressed his love for Jamie and Shelli in the best way he knew how; Through the craftsmanship of his skilled hands. His care for them could be seen in the work he did in their homes, yards and gardens. Jim would come up with an idea; he would draft a plan; he would calculate how much it would cost him; he would loudly proclaim that it couldn't be done! . . . then he would carry out the job perfectly.
Jim loved to take his family to Disneyland, and he would take all of them there every year, well into his late 70's, stopping only when he was physically unable to do so.
Jim Bopp was a good man who led a good life. He will be sorely missed by his family.
James Clarence Bopp is survived by his daughter Jamie Hodoian and her husband Larry; his daughter Shelli Lindahl and her husband Linden; grandson Joshua Lindahl as well as his sister Carol Fichera, sister-in-law Corene Bopp, and numerous nieces and nephews.
