Janie Madeline Coronado

A funeral service for Janie will be held Friday, December 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720. Interment will be held at Belmont Memorial Park, 201 N. Teilman Ave., Fresno, California 93706-1311.

Janie was born on January 12, 1931, in Fresno, California. Sometime after graduating from Fresno Tech High School, Mom met Dad at a dance and it appears it was love at first sight. “He was a good dancer,” she would often recall. (She loved to dance too, always shimmying with her caregivers until her final day.)

The two built a life and home in Fresno, raising eight children (including two sets of twins!) and watching as they grew up to grow their own families. In fact, family was everything to our Mom; she didn’t want or need much (except for her regular shopping trips to TJ Maxx) but for her children and grandchildren to be happy.

Mom will be remembered for so many things, particularly her big heart and her great sense of humor. She enjoyed special fondness for flowers, birds, birdhouses, babies, dogs, purses, shoes, the color blue, cooking for her family and children, attending her grandkids’ sporting events, golf (Tiger Woods!), shopping, gardening, and the list goes on and on and on. She especially loved Christmas, so it’s fitting that she will now spend it at peace with her mother, husband and son.

Janie is preceded in death by too many loved ones, including her parents, Ralph and Julia Hernandez; our father, Richard; our brother, Steven; and her brothers and sisters Frank, E.J., Betty, Laura, Paul, Billy, Morty and Marcia.

Janie is survived by her children, Emil Coronado, Ivan Coronado, Karl Coronado, Laurie Ann Lutjens, Adam Coronado, Adriane Brookshire and Vincent Coronado-Cochrane, and their loving spouses and partners; her many beautiful grandsons, granddaughters and great-grandchildren; and her siblings Genevieve and Johnny.

Our family wishes to thank Pacific Gardens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and her many wonderful caregivers, her extended family, for your loving care of our mother.
