Joaquin Miguel went home to the Lord on June 3, 2021. He was born at his home (aka the Fork) between Hanford, Kingsburg and Selma on January 10, 1936 to Joaquin and Carmelita Miguel. He had five brothers and four sisters. He spent his time working on the dairy and ranch with his siblings, discovering his passion for working the land. By working hard at an early age it prepared him for the adversities of life.
He met Bernice Cox through mutual friends at school and they married in 1957 at St. Patricks Church in Kerman. They had two daughters, Monica and Nancy. He taught his daughters the value of hard work, the love of family; and to find the humor in good times and bad, and that there is joy in all things. He was a loving father and will be cherished and missed forever.
Joaquin worked for many different farmers around Caruthers and the surrounding area, as well as being a journeyman Butcher. At the age of 40 he realized his dream of purchasing his own ranch and planting his vineyard. He was a successful raisin grower. He had many different fruit trees and vegetables on the property. He loved to share all that he grew with family and friends. It brought him great joy and pride.
Joaquin truly loved his family, as well as nature; and watching things grow. He loved being in his vineyard and seeing the changes each season brought. He especially loved the fragrance of the first bloom. He was recognized by all at the sight of Ol Blue, his 1956 Ford Truck with wrap around glass, which he purchased the same year his daughter Monica was born. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren whether vacationing or at home. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Monica Elizabeth Logoluso; his brothers Richard Miguel, Manuel Miguel, Charles Miguel, and Dale Miguel; his sisters Lucille Direito and Geraldine Miguel.
Joaquin is survived by his wife Bernice; daughter Nancy Marie Zumkeller and her husband Daniel; grandson Ben Joaquin Zumkeller and his wife Winifrida; granddaughter Rachel Anne Hall and her husband Cameron; great-grandchildren Beda Zumkeller, Carmelita Zumkeller, Caylee Hall, Caydence Hall, and Weston Hall; brother Frank Miguel; and sisters Florene Bettencourt and Mary De Bartolo. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. A Graveside Service will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 10:00 am.
