Joe Avila, beloved husband of 49 years to Linda Avila, passed away on June 22, 2024, in Fresno, California. Born in Fresno to Daniel and Ladislada Avila, Joe was the cherished father of Maria Alicia and Joseph, treasured bonus father to Emily, and adored grandfather of Hope, Raylan, Joey, and Rose.
He was a loving brother to Pidi (Cavasos), Tony, Dan, Cathy (Morse), Mary (Garcia), and John.
Joe graduated from Fresno State in 1974 and went on to found Central Valley Seeds in 1985, where he served as President until his passing. His dedication and hard work made a lasting impact in the agricultural community.
Beyond his career, Joe was passionate about coin collecting, sharing stories of his life adventures, gold mining, cowboy movies, and classic cars. He found true joy in spending time with his family and friends.
Joe was actively involved with the West Side Alumni Reunion Scholarship Committee, where his contributions helped countless students pursue their educational dreams.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 3:00pm at Stevens & Bean Funeral Home, 202 N. Teilman Ave, Fresno, CA 93706, followed by a Rosary at 6:00pm. A Mass in celebration of Joe's life will take place on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:00am at St. Helen's Catholic Church, 4870 E. Belmont Ave, Fresno, CA 93727, with burial at Belmont Memorial Park, 201 N. Teilman Ave, Fresno, CA 93706. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Side Alumni Reunion Scholarship Fund or any children’s charities, causes that were dear to Joe's heart.
Joe's kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
