With hearts full of tender memories and enduring love, the family of Joe Plutarco Rios announces his peaceful passing on May 28, 2024, at the venerable age of 89. Born on July 9, 1934, in the welcoming town of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, MX, Joe lived a life marked by steadfast dedication to his family, work, and the simple joys that make a life well-lived.
For over forty years, Joe was a familiar and respected figure among the vineyards of California's Central Valley, where he devoted his days to the cultivation of the land as a foreman. His commitment to his craft was matched only by the love and care he poured into every grape, every vine, every bottle that bore the fruit of his labor.
Music was Joe's soulful companion, as he spent countless hours playing drums with his cherished bands, El Cambio Clave Azul and Tropical Copacabana. His Sundays were reserved for laughter and friendly competition around the family table, playing the card game 31, and his occasional visits to the casino were filled with the light-hearted spirit of a man who enjoyed every moment.
Joe now joins those who have gone before him, including his father Leopoldo, mother Elvira, his beloved wife Erlinda, his son Leo, and his siblings who have departed this earthly realm.
He is survived by his loving children Mary, Gloria, Larry, Anthony, Jose Juan, and Anna; his siblings Daniel, Sister Elvira, and Raul; and a legacy that includes 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his memory and the lessons he shared.
The family invites friends and loved ones to gather in remembrance of Joe at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns and Blair Funeral Home on Thursday, June 20, 2024. A private family visitation will take place from 4:30 to 5:00 PM, with a public visitation following from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. At 6:00 PM, the Holy Rosary will be recited in his honor.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Helen Catholic Church on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM. The interment will follow immediately after at Belmont Memorial Park, where Joe will be laid to rest.
The family extends their gratitude to Whitehurst Sullivan Burns and Blair Funeral Home for their compassionate assistance during this time. Joe Plutarco Rios will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
