

John N. Bowden, age 70, of Fresno passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014. John was the second child of John and Emily Bowden. He was born in San Francisco on March 4, 1944. John grew up in a military family traveling across the country most of his childhood.
After graduating St. Peter's High School on Staten Island, NY, John continued his education at Wagner College until 1965 and finally earning his Master's Degree in Public Health at Columbia University in May 1967. One month later, he married his wife, Barbara, on Staten Island and moved to Seattle to serve in the Public Health Service for seven years. In 1977, John began to work for Kaiser Permanente in the Bay Area and later in Sacramento. As hospital administrator, John was implemental in expanding Kaiser to Fresno in 1985. John left Kaiser in 1986 to open his own business. John owned and operated National Video, a neighborhood video store, at First and Nees from 1987 until 1995.
In the remainder of his life, John enjoyed traveling, gardening, San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Browns, San Jose Sharks, Candy Crush and conservative politics.
John is survived by Barbara, his wife of 47 years; his son, Tim; his daughter, Kerry, and her husband Kurt; his grandchildren, Alex and Kaylee; and his sister, Celeste Bowden.
A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
