It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John Frederick Cosby, age 82, a beloved father, veteran of the U.S. Army, talented graphic designer, dedicated volunteer, and passionate skier and sailor. John left us peacefully on March 8, 2025, at Sierra Care in Clovis. Preceded in death by his mother, Helena Cosby-Lashbrook, father, William Cosby and sister, Barbara Cosby-Husid.
Born on January 12, 1943, John was a talented artist from a young age, social butterfly, adventurer, and generous spirit with his time and heart. As a father to Quinn and Joshua Cosby, he was actively involved in their interests, offering encouragement and wisdom. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and Fresno State.
Professionally, John was a graphic designer and photographer in the Advertising Arts. He played Santa for over 30 years throughout Fresno and was a judge and mentor for the Miss California pageant.
John gave back to the community by volunteering for numerous non-profits, including the Fresno Rotary Club, in efforts to make a difference.
“Big John” found his greatest joy in skiing, sailing, and watching Fresno State Football.
John will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his legacy will continue to inspire.
A deep, heartfelt thank you and sincere appreciation goes out to the entire nursing/staff at Sierra Care Clovis, Bristol Hospice and the VA of Fresno for their unwavering compassion committed to his care preceding his passing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Parkinson’s Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
