John Herrera Jr.

John was born on October 20, 1941, in Cutler, California, to Elias and Maria Herrera. He graduated from Redwood High School in 1961 and later served his country in the U.S. Army for two years in communications, stationed in Paris.

On May 25, 1974, he married the love of his life, Jennie Herrera. Together, they shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. John was a devoted and thoughtful husband, and Jennie will miss him dearly.

John worked for 18 years at Target Specialty and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. A loyal Dodgers baseball fan, he also took great pride in his baby blue Chevy Silverado Stepside, which he kept in pristine condition—just like his yard. He especially loved spending peaceful days fishing with Jennie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Maria Herrera; his brother, Albert Herrera; and sisters Ruth Diaz, Lucy Banuelos, Rosie Delgado, Jenny Garcia, Helen Rubalcaba, and Susie Jacquez.

John is survived by his loving wife Jennie and his daughter Gina Wells. He is also survived by his sisters Angie Romo (Max), Ruby Olea, Mary Torres (Joe), Diana Herrera, and brothers Tony Herrera (Socorro), Johnny Herrera, and Larry Rubalcaba (Violet). John came from a large, close-knit family of 14 siblings and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him deeply and will miss him greatly.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Sierra Care, especially Manny, Michelle, and all the compassionate nurses. A special thank you as well to CNAs Alex, Jasmine, Liz, Sandra, and the entire team. Deep gratitude is also extended to Bristol Hospice, including Dr. Ginger, for their care and support during John's final days.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 AM at CrossCity Christian Church, located at 2777 E Nees Ave, Fresno, CA 93720 followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the same location.
