Leonard was born on February 24, 1927 in Fresno, CA to George Ludwig Halvorson and Mary Arvilla Taylor. A lifetime resident of Fresno, he attended Roosevelt High School where he was affectionately known as “Red”, graduating with the class of 1945. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served overseas during the Korean War. Leonard married Nadean Bennett on October 14, 1950 and together they built a foundation of hard work and commitment for their family.
Leonard will be remembered for his smile, friendly nature, and sense of humor. A man of faith, he spent many years serving in his local congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in a variety of leadership positions. He worked tirelessly and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Leonard led an active life and was blessed with good health; his family loved to marvel that he could ride a bike into his 90’s.
Leonard was preceded in death by wife Nadean, his parents, and his older brother George. He is survived by his six children: Mike (Debra), Tom, Jane (Quentin), Karyn (Tom), Matt (Tami), and Erik (Holly); 26 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. The legacy he helped build will be felt for generations to come.
Leonard will be laid to rest next to his wife at Belmont Memorial Park during a private family ceremony. A memorial for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 14th at 12:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 524 W Gettysburg Ave, Fresno, CA 93705.
