Merrit E. Koontz

Merrit E. Koontz, 91, of Fresno, CA, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2020.

He was born August 13, 1929 in Woodston, Kansas to the Arthur and Bertha Koontz. He married Pat Richardson on 1955. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2008 after 52 years of marriage.

Merrit was a veteran of WWII, serving with the United States Navy. He was a member of good standing of the Labor’s International Union of North America where he was employed for 48 years.

Merrit was very active his entire life. He was an avid hunter, fishermen and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching and attending the car races with his family. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games, watching TV, especially the Oakland A’s games and spending time by the water with his dog Wags. He was said to be a gentleman and a scholar. He was truly loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by three children, Merrit Daniel Koontz of Bullhead, AZ, Arnold (Debbie) Koontz, of Port Huron, MI, M. “Andy” Koontz, of Fresno, CA; grandsons, Dearld (Devin) Roth, Jaysen Koontz, Michael Koontz, Andrew S. Koontz and Rueben Rodrigues; granddaughters, Annette (Paul) Churchill, Andrea Koontz, Elise (Angel) Rivera, and Donyale (Art) Gladue, Christy Koontz and Amber Koontz; several great grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews and a very special friend Dessie Musacchio. He was preceded in death by two sons, Arthur O. Koontz (December 24, 1995) and Ronald Roth (April 12, 2011).

The Reverend Arnold E. Koontz will officiate. A limited number of people will be allowed in attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Private Service will be at Belmont Memorial Park Cemetery, Fresno, CA, for immediate family only. Make memorial contributions to Blue Water Area Rescue Mission, 1920 24th Street Port Huron, Michigan 48060.
