It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nan Jean Ellis
Who left us peacefully on the evening of July 6th of 2025.
Nan Jean Ellis was born on May 17, 1941 and passed away on July 7, 2025.
Nan will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and dedication to the martial arts community. In the early years, Nan won two Judo championships in 1968, the Western States and the Nationals in Nage No Kata as a second-degree black belt. Nan continued as a Judo instructor and co-owner of the KENJU combined karate-judo studio in Madera California with her husband Kirk Ellis. Nan inspired many for years. In her later years she found peace and joy, tending to her garden, surrounded by family and her beloved grandchildren. While time has passed since her martial arts days, her legacy of strength, kindness and love of life continues to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
Nan Will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be announced later by son Quint B Ellis for those who would like to attend. Thank you for your love and support.
