It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished friend, Natalia Berglund. She departed from this world on January 28, 2024 peacefully at home.
Natalia was born in Visalia, California on August 31, 1961 to Robert and Marjorie Schelling. While growing up Natalia helped around the family farm. She was thrilled when she received her horse Sabrina and would go everywhere on her, even riding Sabrina in the rodeo circuit. Her upbringing on the farm translated to her most recent residence in Fresno CA, where she and her husband spent the past thirty five years. This is where she had mastered the art of home and garden decor. She was an expert on succulents along with many other plants, weeds, trees, soil and water. Other activities she loved were waterskiing, hiking, swimming and going to the ocean to watch butterflies, spending time cuddling with her cat Clyde, and walking Henry the family dog. She loved bringing people together and cooking for her family especially her sons Wyatt and Chet.
As a devoted wife, Natalia shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, John. Their union was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and commitment. In the early years of their marriage they sought adventure through traveling, camping, and even skydiving. In the later years they stuck by each other’s side through sickness and health.
After high school Natalia had moved to Fresno and worked at Household Finance and Advanta Mortgage. Her career was put on hold while raising children and later got into special education for several years before eventually retiring. As a mother of two boys she took an active role in the rearing of her children. It was important that her boys were active which led to putting them into baseball and soccer. There she became a coach and a referee. Throughout her life, her children knew they could always turn to her for support and a shoulder to lean on.
Beyond her roles as a wife and mother, Natalia was a friend to many and a source of comfort and support. She was kind, generous, and could get anyone to open up to her. She offered her home as a safe and welcoming place. Natalia will be remembered for her resilience, her infectious laughter, and her ability to find joy in life's simplest moments. Her spirit will live on through the memories we hold dear.
Natalia passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
Natalia is survived by her husband John Berglund and her two sons Wyatt Berglund and Chet Berglund as well as her mother Marjorie Schelling, her brother Erik Schelling (Holly), her brother Brian Schelling (Debbie), and her sister Michelle Schultz (John).
Natalia was preceded in death by her father Robert Schelling.
A celebration of Natalia’s life will be announced at a future date.
