Norma Harvey was born in Fresno, California, on January 25, 1928 to William and Louise Schmidt. She graduated from Fresno Technical High School in 1945. She met Jack Harvey in 1946 and they married that year. Their close, loving relationship flourished for 70 years.
In Fresno, they raised three children, Linda, Jackie, and John. A fourth child, Mark, died at age eight. In 2005 Norma and Jack moved to Ojai, California, where Linda lived with her husband Lawrence (Lol) Sorensen. After Jack’s death in 2015, Norma joined Linda and Lol in Camarillo, California, where she lived until her passing.
Throughout her life, Norma was involved with her community, from her early volunteer hospice service, to her church quilting group in later years. She was engaged with her loving family, friends, dogs, and cats. She solved jigsaw puzzles, watched movies, basked in the garden, belonged to a sewing group, and played cards with family. Hers was a full life.
Norma Harvey died peacefully at her home on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at age 96. She is survived by her three children, Linda Sorensen and her husband Lawrence, Jackie James and her husband Fred, and John Harvey and his wife Ellie, as well as five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her dog, Pepper, 14, all of whom she loved dearly.
Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, April 5th, at 10:00 a.m. at Belmont Memorial Park, 201 North Teilman Ave, Fresno, California. Pastor David Sebastian will preside over the service.
