Ola Mae Hammack

Ola Mae was born in Sayre, Oklahoma to John Smith and Myrtle Annie Smith (nee Fletcher) on June 13, 1918. In her early youth her family moved from Oklahoma to the San Juan-Pharr area of southern Texas.

From that part of Texas, the family migrated to the town of Buckeye, Arizona. In that small farming community Ola Mae met an Oklahoma farm-boy named Archie Wilson Hammack.

Very quickly they fell in love and were married on February 20, 1934, in Buckeye. The first years of the marriage were very difficult, working the agriculture fields and beginning to start a family.

On January 19, 1935 Archie and Ola Mae welcomed into their world and new son, Donald Ray. The new excitement of parenthood quickly turned to pain as their young son perished on December 15, 1935 from pneumonia.

The sadness turned to joy, shortly thereafter, as another son arrived into this world, Teddy, followed by Jimmy, a daughter, Zeeva, and sons Jerry, and Leon.

Ola Mae worked in the medical field as an L.V.N. in several nursing homes in Fresno, Indio, as well as Blythe, CA.

In retirement, Ola Mae spent time with her five children, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren.

On June 30, 2012, Ola Mae Hammack answered that one long distance phone call that we all know is coming. That is when God requested her presence, and called her home to be with my Father, my brother, and the rest of her family.

The celebration of the life and times of Ola Mae Hammack will be conducted at New Hope Community Church, in Clovis. The service will begin at 10 am on Friday, July 6th. Officiating the celebration will be Reverend Tim Rolen.
