Orland was born in Salt Lake City UT to Orland and Ethyl Davies. As a youth, he moved to Fresno and attended Fresno High School, graduating valedictorian at 16. Orland served in the Navy during WWII and then in the Air force during the Korean conflict. He earned his Medical Degree at UCSF in 1946, specializing in General surgery and was Board Certified in thoracic and vascular surgery. He married Dorothy Routt Davies and completed his residency in San Francisco, after which he returned to Fresno in 1954 where he was the Dean of the Medical Residency program at the then, Valley Medical Center. Orland researched, introduced & published, life saving, ground breaking, vascular surgical procedures. He was invited internationally to lecture on these procedures. His private practice in medicine served Fresno and the Central Valley for over 50 yrs.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Kay Davies, his son Orland Garfield Davies III of Placerville, CA; daughters Judith Ann Davies of Santa Monica, CA, Christina Ellen Davies of Fresno and Carol Lynn Davies of Atascadero, CA. Diane Elizabeth Davies and Shawn Robert Davies are deceased. Also surviving is younger brother Richard Blaine Davies. Orland has a legacy of 13 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
