She grew up alongside her siblings-Frank, Mary, Pete Jr., Joe Jesse, and Joe Angel-who remember her as gentle and quiet in nature yet deeply devoted to those she loved.
At the young age of sixteen, Petra married her neighbor and lifelong partner, Albert Medina. Albert was the love of her life, and together they built a marriage that spanned an incredible 65 years-a union rooted in devotion, laughter, and shared dreams. They were blessed with seven children-six daughters and one son-each a precious piece of her heart.
Petra worked in many service roles over the years, but her final position in the food service department at Roosevelt High School became a fond chapter of her life. Known as "the lunch lady with a smile," she greeted every student warmly-and sometimes slipped a grandchild or two a little extra treat when they came by to say hello.
Outside of work, Petra found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved traveling to the coast, camping at Morro Bay and Shaver Lake, and later visiting her daughter on the Central Coast. She delighted in discovering new flavors and recipes, often watching cooking shows to broaden her knowledge and palate.
Petra's greatest joy was her family. With twenty-two grandchildren and many great grandchildren, her home was always a place of warmth, welcome, and love. Her grandson Matthew held a special place in her heart, as she lovingly raised him from a young age. In her later years, Matthew, along with our father, was our mom's primary caregiver, showing her the same unwavering love, patience, and devotion that she had poured into all of us throughout her life.
Petra also lived with a deep and unwavering faith in her God, Jehovah. That faith was her anchor in life's storms, her source of comfort in difficult times, and her constant reminder of hope.
Our mother would not want our hearts to be heavy. She would ask us to remember her as she was-gentle, loving, compassionate-and to carry forward the kindness she showed so effortlessly.
Our family would like to thank all those who have blessed us with empathy, words of strength, and warm embraces during this difficult time. Your love has been a light in our sorrow and a reminder of the goodness that still surrounds us.
