Our hearts are broken, and it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Raquel Martinez. On December 9, 2020, the Lord blessed her with peace and eternal light. Our mother was born in Villa Hidalgo, Nayarit, Mexico, on December 19, 1936, to Carmen Rios and Faustino Castillo. In 1972, she permanently relocated to the United States, at which time she continued being a devout wife and mother, and later a grandmother to her beloved grandchildren; until her passing.
Our mother was affectionately known as “Vita” to her grandchildren and to those who loved her. She was a devout catholic and could often be heard praying for her loved ones. She enjoyed cooking and could also be found cooking in her kitchen and would always greet you with “ya comiste?” Always an affectionate, loving and generous being, she will continue living in our hearts and in the many happy memories that each of us shared with her.
Our mother is survived by our father and husband of 62 years, Gilberto Martinez, her children, Gilberto Martinez and wife Mari Martinez; Mina Martinez; Ana Perez and husband, Arturo Perez; Rafael Martinez and wife Edith Martinez; Alma Fournarakis and Nick Fournarakis; Gina Khristo and husband Marc Khristo; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings, Mario Castillo, Arcelia Castillo, Rosa Parada, Alberto Castillo, Yolanda Castillo, and Pilar Castillo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
We would like to offer our sincere gratitude to her cardiologist, Dr. Henning Rasmussen, who always gave her the utmost level of care, which prolonged her life for many years, in spite of her many health issues.
Memorial Services are Pending.
