With great sadness to all who were fortunate to have met her, Rosemary Elizabeth Bremer left this world on September 7, 2022. She celebrated her 95th birthday on August 31, with many of her family visiting during the momentous occasion. Rosemary passed peacefully in her sleep at her home, as was her wish.
Rosemary was born in Germany in 1927 to Ignatius and Sophia Meer. Her parents and older sister Lory immigrated to America when Rosemary was two months old. She was joined by a younger sister Ruthie after the family settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was in Cincinnati where Rosemary met the love of her life, Thomas Edward Bremer. They married on October 2, 1948. They were devoted to the Catholic Church and found their calling while having five children in Cincinnati. Dedication to a start-up Catholic publication took them to Lee, Massachusetts, eventually returning the family to Cincinnati. The family moved to Fresno in 1956 and grew to eight children. Rosemary and Thomas remained in Fresno for the rest of their lives along with most of their children.
Rosemary and Thomas continued their life dedicated to their family, church, and the Catholic newspaper. They both found the time and energy to juggle the upbringing of eight children and the family-owned business through good and hard times. They did so unselfishly. For those visiting the Bremer home on any occasion, it was apparent the devotion to family Rosemary and Thomas had.
Rosemary lost Thomas unexpectedly in December 1988. She found the courage and will to persevere without the love of her life. Jim, her third oldest child, passed away in December 2009. Again, Rosemary found the courage and will to persevere. The family lost Bill Durham in 2020. Bill was a son in-law and married to Donna. Bill called Rosemary ‘Mrs. Bremer’. It was a ‘term of endearment’ and respect for the strong matriarch Rosemary was to the family.
Rosemary is survived by her children and in-laws Tom Bremer, Marianne (Steve) Perata, Linda (Jim) Bremer, Tim (Lynn) Bremer, Joe (Cris) Bremer, Rob (Cindy) Bremer, Donna (Bill) Durham, Ed (Judy) Bremer, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Rosemary was a remarkable person and is dearly missed by her family.
