Sallie J. Barents passed on February 7th, 2026 at 86 years old. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on April 7th, 1939 to Colonel Cornelius Barents and Edna Barents, Sallie was transplanted to Fresno in the 50’s where she would be raised by her father and stepmother, Louise Barents, alongside her siblings.
She attended Fresno High where she had a love for theater, later selling tickets at the historic Tower Theater. After graduating, she would go on to marry Paul Mosesian, the father to her three children. Sallie also remembered with fondness her time working with the residents of Fresno Care and Guidance where she provided care and transportation on day trips for many years. And, many will remember her running Charlie’s Fruit Stand in Madera and working at the family raisin plant.
Moving between Fresno and Madera county throughout her life Sallie will be remembered as a wonderful multicultural cook, credited to her time working at Estrada’s Spanish Kitchen with her Grandmother, and a passionate animal lover. She was known to have many and varying animals at any given time ranging from her beloved cats and dogs to snakes, lizards, ducks and many exotic birds including emus and ostriches.
Sallie was an adventurous, sharp-witted, and avid story teller. She loved going to Santa Monica Beach, Carmel Beach, Portuguese Bend and later would enjoy Hawaii with her family. One could also find her working in her garden and sharing her recipes with her family. She frequently would take her two grandchildren and dogs on many car trips and was proud to be known as “Grandma”.
Sallie was survived by her three children: Paul and wife Christy; Suzanne; Richard and wife Michele; and her two grandchildren Caitlin and Dylan.
Sallie’s family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Oakmont of Fresno and Bristol Hospice for assisting her in her final moments. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sallie Barents’ memory may be made to your local animal shelter or adoption center of choice through their website in honor of her hope to support the care of all animals in need.
