

Shig was born on August 25, 1927 in Fresno, California to Hyakuzo and Mito Inahara. He grew up in Fresno, where he attended elementary and Jr. High schools. The family was relocated to an internment camp in Jerome, Arkansas then to Hila, Arizona. Shig graduated from high school while in camp. He later received an honorary diploma from Edison High School.
Shig left the internment camp in 1945 and moved to Chicago. After staying only for a few months, he returned to Fresno. In 1950 he was drafted into the army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He returned to Fresno in 1952. Shig and Kaoru Helen Nakano married on March 1, 1953. They were married for 60 years and had two children, Midori and Byron. In 1953 Shig started working at Inland Showcase as both a cabinetmaker and draftsman. He was a Mills Cabinet member for 50 years and retired in 1986.
Shig was an avid bowler, an active member of VFW Hanford, Senior Club, Fresno Betsuin, Fresno City Howakai and supported the Kumamoto Shinwa Kai. He was very devoted to his family and his grandsons.
Shig was preceded in death by his wife Kaoru Helen Inahara; his parents, Hyakuzo and Mito Inahara; his brothers Jim Inahara, Mas Inahara, Yosh Inahara; and his sister Fumi Inahara Nozumi.
Shig is survived by daughter Midori Inahara from from Bay Area; son Byron Inahara and his wife Amy, grandsons Brandon and Brayden of Hawaii; brother Ted Inahara and George Inahara of Fresno, Mits Inahara of Modesto, and numerous nieces and nephews.
