Bill passed away in Fresno after fighting cancer the last year and a half. William was born in Fresno to William and Elizabeth (Bettie) Gerringer.
Bill was a Sequoia Little League All-Star baseball pitcher 1955. Graduated Roosevelt High in 1961, and was on the wrestling team at FCC. He also enjoyed heavy weight lifting. He graduated from Fresno City College in 1965.
Bill served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1965-1971. Enjoyed Shotokan Karate with Sensei Kazvo Kuriyama where he earned his Black Belt. Bill was also affiliated with Way of Japan and Sensei Robert Haliburton.
Bill married Cynthia Lee Wren January 1971.
Bill was proud to work as a Fresno City Firefighter from January 1971 – August 2004. He loved the job and his fellow firefighters.
Papa and Bill made a beautiful home for us, completed in June 1972. Little Cindy arrived July 1972. Little Billy arrived November 1976.
Bill was baptized May 1981 by Rev. Irving Penberthy at Cedar Ave. Baptist Church. The years flew by. Tragedy struck when Little Cindy died November 2017. We haven’t been the same since. Our faith keeps us going.
William D. is survived by wife Cynthia and son William Richard.
A Private graveside service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later time.
