Mrs. Barbara Lynette Young was born in Globe, Arizona to Mitford and Sarah Sparks on December 4, 1930. She had two sisters; Virginia and Kay, and one brother, Butch. They were the typical children; very obedient with a slight bit of drama between the four of them.
Barbara loved to shop, even if she was not buying. Every Saturday, she would get dressed up and go to the mall. She was very competitive with Dominos, and loved playing Canasta. Barbara was a loving and sincere woman who was always willing to help others. She loved to collect a variety of dolls, all shapes and sizes. Her husband, CB, had to build onto their home in Midland, Texas just to have a place to display all her dolls. Barbara grew up Pentecostal as a child, married, and became a member of the Church of Christ on Golf Course Road, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Barbara had a nice collection of cookie jars, as she loved to bake her family her delightful peanut butter cookies with Hershey’s Kisses on the top, as well as her wonderful mincemeat cookies. She continued to make them up to this last Christmas. Barbara was known by the first six grandchildren as “Grammer”, and to the last two as “Nana”. Barbara was a homemaker for 69 years, and was married to her husband, Cornelius Barlow Young, for 56 years. Reading was her favorite pastime. She loved the color purple, as she could always be seen wearing something with purple accented. Barbara loved Elvis Presley, gospel music, the movie “The Ten Commandments”, as well as the song “Memories” from the Broadway musical “Cats”.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Mitford and Sarah Sparks. She is survived by her sisters, Virginia Gray and Kay Denton, and her brother, Butch Sparks. Left to forever cherish her memories and legacy are daughters, Diane Oglesby, Loretta Hill, and Rhonda Cabral; grandchildren, Lori Clevenger, Ronnie Oglesby, James Oglesby, Lindsey Brown, Whitney Thompson, Kenneth Hill, Hannah Cabral, and Rebekah Cabral; as well as great-grandchildren; Tyler Clevenger, Bryce Clevenger, Jordan Thompson, and Izabella Hill.
