David Gregory Johnson, lovingly known as Greg, PawPa, and the unforgettable Frog Man, passed away in Frisco, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, humor, and unwavering loyalty. His life was defined by deep family roots, a tireless work ethic, and a heart that never hesitated to give.
Greg was born to Clova Abshire, who survives him, and Jim Johnson, who preceded him in death. He was one of four siblings—brother to Barry Johnson (deceased), Shelby Johnson, and Mark Johnson—and the source of countless family stories and memories that will continue to be shared for generations.
He grew up with a spirit of adventure and curiosity, graduating from Grove High School in Grove, Oklahoma, and later continuing his studies in Kansas City, Kansas. His childhood memories, soon to be shared by family, will no doubt reflect the humor, mischief, and heart that shaped him into the man everyone loved.
Greg married the love of his life, Anna, in 1986, beginning a 40 year partnership built on devotion, laughter, and a bond so strong that he never once told her “no.” Their marriage was a testament to commitment and affection, admired by all who knew them.
Together they raised a family that became Greg’s greatest pride. He is survived by his son Ben Johnson, Ben’s wife Brandy, and their children Grace (Austin Murphy-husband), Hope, Max, and Grey. Greg was also a proud grandfather to Chance Johnson, Taylor Johnson, and a delighted great grandfather to Selina Johnson, Persephone Hart and JC Murphy. His love extended to many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Greg lived life fully and joyfully. He loved fishing, hunting, boating, and traveling, and he was an enthusiastic fan of football, basketball, baseball, NASCAR, and hockey. Whether outdoors or cheering from the sidelines, he embraced every moment with energy and passion.
His professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. Greg spent decades in the automotive industry, beginning at Sam Pack’s 5 Star Ford in the early 1980s, continuing at Sewell Ford in Odessa, Texas from 2012 to 2020, and returning to Sam Pack’s 5 Star Ford from 2020 to the present. Throughout his career, he earned numerous awards and the respect of colleagues across the industry.
But Greg’s true impact came from the way he led. He mentored countless people, offering guidance with equal parts honesty and humor. He was the kind of leader who could correct you and teach you at the same time—firm, fair, and always rooting for your success. If you gave your all, Greg would give you the world.
Above all, he was a family man. He adored his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and he cherished his beloved dog, Coco Michelle aka Alligator, who was never far from his side. His presence at family events, games, celebrations, and everyday moments will be deeply missed.
Greg leaves behind a lifetime of friendships—so many that they cannot be counted—each one touched by his generosity, loyalty, and unmistakable charm.
His memory will live on in the stories told, the lessons shared, and the love he poured into everyone fortunate enough to know him.
