Our beloved Glenda Gayle Golden (GG) passed on to Heaven on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 in McKinney, TX after recently being diagnosed with Covid-19 and Pneumonia. GG was born August 1, 1948 to Calvin Franklin and Dorothy Sue Matthews. She grew up in Magnum, OK with her two siblings, Carolyn and Harold. GG attended Mangum Highschool and was known for always having a smile on her face.
GG was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She loved all of her family and especially enjoyed attending her grandkids sporting events. She loved songs by Elvis Presley, Kenny Rogers and numerous Christian songs. GG's hobbies were knitting and reading, and she was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.
Prior to becoming disabled with encephalitis in 1976, GG worked in Property Management for Trammell Crow. In the 1990’s and early 2000’s, she followed her heart and started volunteering at the local hospital. She sat with elderly patients to provide emotional support and comfort. GG’s favorite job in life was being a great mom and grandparent. Above all though, she was a devout Christian. One of GG’s favorite sayings and one she lived by is “It’s a part of God’s plan” from Jeremiah 29:11 ‘For I Know The Plans I Have For You’ Declares the Lord, ‘Plans to Prosper You and Not to Harm You, Plans to Give You Hope and a Future’. She attended Jupiter Road Baptist Church in Garland and later moved to Hope Fellowship in Frisco, TX
GG is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin Franklin Matthews and Dorothy Sue McCullouch Matthews.
GG is survived by her son, Joey Golden (Nancy) of Frisco, TX; sister, Carolyn Matthews Farquhar Mock in Lubbock, TX; brother, Harold D. Matthews (Alice) of Wolfe City, TX; grandchildren, Seth, Tanner, Logan and Alexandra; and numerous loving uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives that she loved dearly. She will be missed dearly.
For the last 5 years GG lived at Settlers Ridge Nursing Home in Celina, TX and her family would like to thank the staff for taking such good care of her. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
