Born in Tipton, Iowa on April 12, 1927 and passed from this life on December 5, 2016
Bob was a shy farm boy from Iowa, and after graduating from high school, became part of “the greatest generation”, serving abroad in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired salesman from the Nestle Corporation and during his retirement, was a constant traveler. Bob was a loved Scout Master, trail blazer, hiker, photographer, and a lover of Jazz music. He was a devout Christian, a wonderful singer, and loved all things in God’s creation. Bob had an eye for photography, and he shared many beautiful pictures as well as being known for his handmade cards for his family and friends.
Bob was a kind and gentle man who cared deeply for family, friends, and his country. He was one of the few who actually stopped to smell the flowers, and if the light was right, he would photograph them. Born with wheels on his feet, he never stopped planning his next trip.
There is no doubt, the mountains he is now climbing, and the landscape he is gazing on, are from the palette and brush of God’s own hands.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Hostler and Mary Emma Rekemeyer Hostler; his brother Donald Hostler; his son, David Hostler; his grandson, Collin Hostler and his wife, Maurine Gronert Hostler.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Callan Hostler; his daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Tom Stambaugh; as well as the children who adopted Bob: Fred and Suzanne Preston; Bill and Marilyn Locklier; Randy and Judy Ridgley; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
