

In 1950, she left Detroit and joined the Air Force where she eventually met her first husband in San Antonio, also in the Air Force. After leaving the service, she became a military wife raising two kids. This included taking her 5 and 7 year old children to a small village in Turkey in the 50s and joining her husband in an overseas assignment. After returning to San Antonio, she divorced and began her career working for the Department of Defense while raising her two kids.
In 1961, she met her second husband and had another child. Besides a short assignment at NASA, she spent a majority of her civil service career working for the DOD in San Antonio. She divorced a second time and raised her youngest child as a single mother. In 1985, she took an assignment to Washington DC where she worked until she retired after 38 years of government service. She continued to work in the private sector for a number of years afterwards.
She was always one to help and gave back to the community whenever she could. She spent countless hours donating her time to various charities like The Red Cross, Lighthouse for the Blind, and The Salvation Army.
She moved back to the Dallas area in 1993 to be closer to her children. She continued making contributions to the local area where she helped get the senior center in Frisco started. She was a member of the Frisco Garden Club, and the Red Hats.
She worked with the Salvation Army in Plano and looked forward to helping with the annual Angel Tree at Christmas time. She also volunteered at Plano Presbyterian Hospital for 20 years in a number of different areas, including Day Surgery, NICU, and the Volunteer Coordination Office.
She loved to travel and visited a number of countries, spanning the globe from Australia, China, to Egypt and Greece and places in between.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marie Griffin of Michigan, daughter Deborah , and son William. She is survived by her son, James, and her “Daughter of choice” Nicole.
A Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled at a later date along with a graveside service at the Dallas National Cemetery, with military honors.
