John Ross Pendleton

Pastor John Ross Pendleton, 95, of Flint Hill, VA departed this life on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Front Royal, VA. He was born on September 25, 1922 in Huntly, Virginia. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Jett; his parents, Mary and Clark Pendleton; brothers, Rufus, Joseph, William, Ralph and Robert Pendleton and sisters, Sarah Jordan and Georgia Champ. He is survived by his current wife, Louise Elizabeth Pendleton of Pittsburg, PA; a daughter, Ann Dorsey of Maryland, two grandchildren, five step children of Pennsylvania and a host of nieces and nephews. Reverend Pendleton was a devoted husband, pastor and friend. He served as Pastor of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Bentonville, VA for a number of years as well as Pastor of Promise Land Baptist Church in Washington, VA for 25 years and was a son of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a dedicated employee, working in the Operating Room at Warren Memorial Hospital for 37 years. Pastor Pendleton is a man of God. He is well known for his infectious smile and wave, always willing to help anyone. He tried to show love to everyone he met by asking you: “How’s the family” and following up by saying, “Give them my love.” Pastor Pendleton loved music, whether listening to it on his many TVs or radios. Early on you might have heard him playing his guitar and banjo.
