Geniel Tingey Siggard

On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, Geniel Tingey Siggard, loving wife and spunky mother and grandmother to many, passed away in her home at the age of 78, after a four year battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Geniel was born March 22, 1942 at home in Weston, Idaho. She grew up on the family farm where she and her siblings helped with planting and harvesting as well as caring for livestock. She graduated as salutatorian from Westside High School in Dayton, Idaho, where she was very involved in school activities, including the cheerleading team. She attended college at Utah State University for one quarter, but had to quit school to help support the family when her father became ill.

Paul Siggard sought her out as a beautiful young woman in his workplace at Thiokol Chemical Corporation in Brigham City, Utah, where she was a secretary. After a short courtship, they married on November 2, 1962 in the Logan Utah Temple. Soon after the birth of their first child, they moved to Loveland, Colorado, where Paul took a job with Hewlett Packard. There they raised their three daughters, who kept her very busy with their many activities.

She loved music and dancing. Her parents bought a piano when she was young, and Geniel took lessons and was able to play for her church. As a young mother, she opened a dance studio in her basement, teaching ballet to many budding dancers. Later in life, she learned to clog and loved traveling and performing with her daughter and granddaughters. Church was important to her, and she served in many teaching and leadership roles.

Geniel loved to be active. Family vacations centered around camping, hiking, and skiing. But her favorite vacation was a nine day rafting trip down the Grand Canyon. Geniel enjoyed daily walks, and was determined to do the Bolder Boulder every year with her husband, Paul.

When she was a youth, Geniel’s grandmother taught her sewing skills, and she made many of her own clothes, as well as clothes for her daughters and their dolls. She used these skills to learn to quilt, and that quickly became her passion. Her children and grandchildren treasure the many works of art that she has made by quilting, and that will be her everlasting legacy.

Geniel was preceded in death by her parents Warren Maurice and Ruth Bastian Tingey and a brother Gilbert. She is survived by her husband, Paul Anthony Siggard; siblings, Mark Bastian Tingey, Karen Tingey Phillips, Kent Maurice Tingey, Angela Tingey Weeks, Ruthann Tingey Gilbert, Shannan Tingey Olson; daughters, Julie Siggard McBride (John McBride), Stephanie Siggard Stevens (Scott Kephart), Janel Siggard Arbon (Jeff Arbon), and a daughter through love, Elisabetta Pedrazzetti Buss; grandchildren, Brandon James McBride, Melinda McBride Bashein, Chelsea McBride, Nicholas Paul Stevens, Kyle John McBride, Samuel Dale Stevens, Corbin Carver Arbon, Paul Ian McBride, Chance Cirrus Arbon; and great-grandchildren, Jordan McBride and Aurelia Bashein.

A small, private memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19th at Lakeside Cemetery in Loveland, Colorado. The service will be broadcast online. Contact the family for more information.
