JD Mankin, 97, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 of natural causes in Loveland, Colorado. JD was born November 10, 1921 to Robert and Alice Mankin in Yeager, Oklahoma. He was the middle of five children.
JD joined the US Marine Corps in 1942 and served in the Central Pacific in World War II as a forward observer for the artillery. He was honorably discharged on November 1, 1945. He was married to Hazel Alice Reavis on November 24, 1945 and they were happily married for the next 73 years. After graduating with a bachelors degree from New Mexico State University and a masters degree from Colorado State University, JD began a career as a Ranch Manager and member of the University of Nevada and University of Idaho Extension Services. He retired as a full professor from the University of Idaho in 1985. JD had many activities he enjoyed, but loved fishing, camping, painting, training horses, and studying the Bible. He was a wonderful teacher and coach. JD was a faithful long-time Christian and a member of the Church of Christ. He served 10 years as an elder in the Caldwell, Idaho Church of Christ.
JD is survived by his wife, Hazel Mankin, son Robb Mankin and his wife, Julie; son-in-law Ron Montague, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughters; Martha Mankin and Lillian Montague.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 11:30 am at Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ft. Collins, Colorado
