Jennifer Sanderson Mills (Monath) passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, with her family by her side. She was a woman of elegance, strength, and quiet adventure, leaving behind a life rich in love, beauty, and meaningful connection.
Born in Virginia December 28, 1943 and raised in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Jennifer carried the spirit of the ocean with her throughout her life. She attended high school in Barbados, later earned her B.A. and Master's degree in Library Science from Boston University and enjoyed a gratifying career in the Colorado State University Libraries. She built a life defined not only by intellect, but by curiosity and grace.
While she shared meaningful years earlier in life, it was her relationship with her partner, Larry Odau, that truly defined her later chapters. Together, they created a life filled with deep love, companionship, and joy. Their bond was unmistakable—rooted in respect, laughter, and a genuine appreciation for one another. They traveled the world side by side, embracing adventure and building a life that reflected their shared sense of wonder and devotion. To witness them together was to understand what true love looks like.
Jennifer had a lifelong passion for travel, beginning with early expeditions to Africa during her college years and continuing throughout her life with Larry. She found joy in playing tennis with friends, always working to improve her game, and she was an avid reader who never lost her curiosity about the world.
She is survived by her partner, Larry Odau; her daughter, Andrea Monath Schumacher (daughter of Jennifer Monath and Thomas P. Monath); and her grandchildren, Calvin Thomas Schumacher and Charlisse Elizabeth Schumacher, of whom she loved dearly. Her daughter was honored to be by her side in her final moments, a quiet reflection of the deep love they shared.
She will be remembered for her elegance, her strength, her adventurous spirit, and above all, the deep and enduring love she shared with Larry.
A private gathering will be held in St. Thomas. A second celebration of life will take place at the Flower Trial Garden at Colorado State University on June 13, 2026 at 2:30pm, all who wish to attend are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Alzheimer’s research.
