Born on September 26, 1938, in Brighton, Colorado, Lance was the son of the late Joseph H. Steinbock and Grace G. (Gerard) Steinbock. He grew up with a deep love for the land, animals, and the rhythms of rural life—passions that stayed with him throughout his years.
Lance graduated from Waverly High School in 1956 and began his career at Woodward Governor that same year. In 1961, he proudly answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army. After completing his service, he returned to Woodward, where he met the love of his life, Mary, whom he married on January 31, 1973. Their marriage of more than five decades was grounded in devotion, partnership, and a shared faith that shaped their home and their lives.
Lance later worked for Colorado Screw Machine, where he remained until his retirement. Known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and willingness to lend a hand, he built a life defined by integrity, humility, and quiet strength.
A true cowboy at heart, Lance loved the rodeo, horses, ranching, and caring for animals of all kinds. He found joy in gardening, working outdoors, and restoring old cars—especially Mary’s beloved Malibu. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of CSU athletics. But above all his hobbies and interests, Lance’s faith was the foundation of his life. He was deeply committed to his church, finding purpose, comfort, and community there. His belief in God guided his decisions, shaped his character, and sustained him through every season of life.
Lance’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Steinbock; his children, Dawn (Michael Harrison) Jacobson, Debra (Jim) Stefanski, and Angela (Craig) Bendixen.
He was a loving grandfather to Sofia (Devin) Lepore, Ava Jacobson, Audrey Stefanski, Weston Stefanski, Hayden Bendixen, and Isabelle Bendixen; and a delighted great‑grandfather to Theodore Lepore and Evelynn Lepore.
Lance is also survived by his brothers, Brent Steinbock and Sheldon Steinbock; and preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Steinbock.
