Mary was born to Arthur and Esther (Meyer) Turner in Lyons, Kansas. She had 3 siblings: Arnetta Ingamells, A.B. “Gus” Turner, and Beverly Anderson.
Mary graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Hutchinson, KS, in 1944. She was unanimously selected by all of her classmates to receive the Top Graduating Student Award. It was the first time only 1 person was nominated to receive that award.
Following graduation, Mary was united in marriage to Fred J. Tuck, and they had two daughters, Denise York and Thea Tuck.
Mary attended Regis University where she graduated with a B.S. in Nursing. Mary was employed as a school nurse at Greeley Central High School. She worked as a private-duty nurse and as a floor supervisor for Northern Colorado Medical Center and other major hospitals in Denver, CO, and Colorado Springs, CO. She enjoyed taking care of her patients, and they always appreciated her gentle and healing touch, compassion and loving care.
Mary was employed as the Director of Employee Health Services by Statitrol Corporation (a Lakewood-based manufacturer of home smoke detectors) and served as the Director of Student Health Services at Aims Community College in Greeley, CO.
Mary was active in the community and was President of the Newcomers Club in Greeley, CO. She was also a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, Epsilon Mu Chapter at the University of Northern Colorado. She was a Charter Member of T.O.P.S., Chapter No. 541, in Fort Collins, CO.
Mary was a very kind and caring person and loved spending time with her friends. She will be remembered for her concern for others, her beautiful blue eyes and warm, friendly smile. Thanks to her many wonderful friends and their support plus her own “I-can-beat-this” strength, she was a cancer survivor.
Mary had many special interests. She had an excellent sense of rhythm and played the drums in the high school marching bank. She loved to dance and enjoyed listening to southern gospel music. Mary was a fantastic cook and an excellent bridge player. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Broncos and Colorado Avalanche. Mary’s love for travel took her to London, England and to Lake Louise and Banff, Alberta Canada. She loved trains and hearing the whistles always made her wonder where they were traveling to.
Many thanks to Pastor John DeAnda, Pastor Steve Harris, and Abbey Wuehler of the Visitation/Care Ministry at Timberline Church for their frequent visits and prayers, especially in Mary’s last months.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at 10:00 AM at the Allnutt Drake Chapel in Fort Collins, CO, with refreshments following the service.
