Born July 9, 1969, in Arlington, Virginia, Tony lived a life defined by love for his family, service to his country, entrepreneurship, engineering innovation, and generosity to his community especially Colorado FIRST robotics.
Tony grew up in Severna Park, Maryland. He was the beloved son of Merton and Elizabeth English and brother to Christina, Terry, and Michael. His happiest moments were spent hiking, boating, and hunting with his family and friends.
After graduating from Severn School, Tony pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University. It was during his college years that he met the love of his life, Debbie.
Following college, Tony proudly served with distinction in the U.S. Army Reserve. As a Battalion logistics officer and Company Commander in Iraq, he led over 200 soldiers and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.
After his military service, Tony transitioned into a successful career in technology and engineering. As a co-owner of Neaera Consulting, Tony was deeply respected for his technical expertise and leadership in the field of connected and automated vehicles.
Tony’s true passion, however, lived at the intersection of technology and community. He was a tireless advocate for youth STEM education and a pillar of the Colorado robotics community. In 2006, he co-founded Team #4499, the Highlanders, a FIRST Robotics Competition team that has inspired and empowered countless students over the years. Tony also served as Director of Operations for the Colorado FIRST Robotics Board of Directors, dedicating himself to building opportunity, leadership, and innovation among young people throughout the Northern Colorado area.
Above all, Tony was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie English, and their three children, Kayla, Megan, and Michael, all of whom carry forward his legacy of curiosity, compassion, and service.
