Phyllis Loucks, 99, died peacefully on November 5, 2024, in Windsor, CO. Phyllis was born September 13, 1925, in Cedaredge, CO along with her fraternal twin Phyllip. She and Phyl were the babies of the family. They had five older brothers, Euwart, George, Jim, Herbie, and Willard. Her parents were Morton and Helen Beckley. Phyllis outlived them all.
Phyllis graduated from Cedaredge High School in 1943, She worked as the telephone switchboard operator for several years. That job enabled her to keep up on all the local “goings-on”.
She and Jerry Loucks, a fellow classmate, courted by mail after WWII and after Jerry had graduated CU Boulder and was working as a geologist. Jerry proposed with a letter and Phyllis accepted. They were married December 30, 1951, in Cedaredge, CO.
The newlyweds moved frequently during their early years but landed in Aurora, CO in 1954 where Bruce was born. Shortly thereafter they were in Calgary Alberta Calgary where Clayton was born in 1959. Then off to Bountiful Utah and finally to Broomfield, CO where Sandy was added to the family in 1962.
Phyllis liked bowling. She was quite good at it and bowled with friends in a league. Late in life while a resident in an Independent Living facility she took up Wii Bowling (a video game). This continued through her tenure in Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing. Recently in Skilled Nursing when her dementia was not so evident she Wii Bowled a 245 two days in a row.
Phyllis served faithfully in several different callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her favorite calling was Librarian.
She was ever the one to offer help. She loved to serve. As she deteriorated over time, and could no longer stand or walk, her repeated questions to her kids from her bed or wheelchair were: What can I do for you; Is there anything you need; Can I come over and help with anything? She lived to serve, and it really bothered her that, in her mind, she was not useful to anyone.
Phyllis is survived by her three kids, Bruce (Sue) of Severance, CO, Clayton of Escondido CA, and Sandy of Loveland, CO. Also, five grandchildren, Zack (Brooke) of Cedaredge, Cody (Jamie) of Farmington UT, Cameron (Sandy) of Severance CO, Kelsey (Shanna) of Windsor, CO, Amy (Jeff) Mitchell of Aurora, CO. Phyllis has 18 great-grandchildren: Corbin, Kyler, Dax, Taylor, Max, Preston, Jaxon, London, Cooper, Zoey, Dakota, Lucy, Rufus, Lennix, Austin, Cade, Alister, and Beckett.
The family is grateful for the personal care given to Phyllis by Columbine Health Systems through her transition from Independent Living to Assisted Living and finally Skilled Nursing. We also express gratitude to Canyon Hospice.
