

Phyllis Eileen (Sailsbery) Gueswel, 97, passed away January 30, 2025 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Weldona, CO on November 26, 1927, to Bemine (Dick) and Eleanor (Lemons) Sailsbery. She married Wayne Edwin Gueswel on July 2, 1951 in Raton, NM and they were married for over 73 years.
A memorial service for Phyllis will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 West Drake Rd, Fort Collins, CO, with Pastor Roy Gueswel officiating. Interment will be immediately following at Roselawn Cemetery, 2718 East Mulberry St., Fort Collins, CO.

Phyllis started her education at the Weldona School before the family moved to Fort Collins, CO, where she graduated from Fort Collins High School in June 1945. She had a career serving in secretarial positions including at Colorado State University, University of Wyoming and University of New Mexico. Most of her positions were in the public schools, including Manassas, VA, Winona, MN and Albuquerque, NM. She retired from Albuquerque Public Schools after serving for 25 years, primarily as a high school principal secretary.
A major part of her life was involvement in church. She was a long-time member of Heights First Church of the Nazarene, Albuquerque NM. She also served in Nazarene churches in Virginia and Minnesota. Her roles included choir member, Children’s Sunday School teacher, Children’s Junior Church leader, Sunday School Superintendent, and Church Board member.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne, of Albuquerque, NM; children Craig Gueswel (Ladonna) of Jay Em, WY and Gail DeLaPlain (Gilbert) of Clayton, NC.
Grandchildren: Sherri Hill (Vince) of Fort Laramie, WY, Gina Lewis (Seth) of White Rock, NM and Julie Gueswel of Spearfish, SD.
Great-grandchildren: Connor and Emily Gregory of White Rock, NM and
Talon, Ezekiel, and Gareth Hill of Fort Laramie, WY
She was preceded in death by infant son, Chris Allen Gueswel; Parents, Bemine & Eleanor Sailsbery; Brothers, Ben, Edward, Art, Robert and Rich Sailsbery; and Sisters, Thelma Whittington, Laoma Mitchell, Francis Sailsbery Kelly, Doris Kennedy, and Opal Sailsbery.
