Born in Denver, Colorado on October 26th, 1946, Susan was one of two children born to T. King and Elizabeth "Betty" Minnick. She graduated from Loveland High School in 1964 and then attended Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado, and later Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. After college Susan went to work for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. She served the State of Texas for 25 years, retiring as a State Trainer.
Susan married Franklin Jefferson on December 19, 1966 in Denver and they remained happily so for more than 58 years. Susan and Franklin were blessed with three children: Eric, Troy, and Brien. In 1973, they moved to Houston, Texas where they raised their three boys. Following Susan's retirement, she and Franklin relocated to Loveland in 2001 to help take care of her parents.
Susan was a wonderful mother who loved unconditionally. She cared very deeply for her children. She did not look at life through rose tinted lenses, instead she taught her children to be tough, and taught them life wasn't always going to be fair. One of her great philosophies as a parent was to treat others how you want to be treated. As a grandparent, she spoiled her grandchildren and loved them dearly.
Susan was a loving, kind, and friendly soul who loved to laugh. She would often accept her children's friends as her own and make them feel like family. This is a small testament to the warmth and care she extended to everyone. Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and acceptance, where all were welcomed with open arms and hearts full of kindness. Susan loved going to the mountains, reading, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and spending time with her family and friends. She was also a very faithful member of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Loveland and St. James Episcopal Church in Houston.
Susan is survived by her husband Franklin Jefferson; children Eric Jefferson (Kristel), Troy Jefferson (Kim), Brien Jefferson (Linda), and Valentino Jefferson (Nickie); grandchildren Jeremy Jefferson, Franklin Jefferson, Brien Jefferson (Lupita), Mykah Jefferson, Chase Jefferson, Troi "Bailey" Jefferson, Brook Jefferson, Blair Jefferson, Michael Jefferson, Christopher Jefferson (Kiley), David Jefferson, Joshua Gregory, Juwaan Jefferson (Elsa), Jahlil Jefferson, and Jasmine Jefferson; and by her great-grandchildren Madison, Kayden, Khloe, Kali, Kobe, and Dominique.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, and by her brother Dale Minnick and his wife Linda.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Susan's life in Colorado on Sunday, April 13th, 2025 at 2pm at All Saints Episcopal Church in Loveland and again in Texas on Saturday, April 26th, 2025 at 11am at St. James Episcopal Church in Houston.
