A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she passed away peacefully on November 24th, 2025 at the age of 95. She was surrounded by the love of her family in Loveland, Colorado.
Born on September 8th, 1930 in Decatur, Iowa, she was the daughter of Lester Grant Evans and Dorothy K. (Carlson) Evans . From a young age, she carried a gentle strength, a nurturing spirit, and a deep devotion to those she loved.
She married Harold Smith on December 24, 1950 and together they built a home filled with laughter, homemade meals, and the warmth of family traditions. She was the proud mother of Douglas Lee, Patricia Ann, Michael Wayne and Michelle Lynn. She was also the cherished grandmother of Peter J. Smith, Mindy Smith, Laura Enoch, Joe Puch, Angelica (Puch) Schreiber, Michael Hillenberg, Ian Simkins, Rebbeca (Smith) Wild, Amanda Smith, John Smith, Alese Mullen and Ethan Mullen. Each of whom brought her endless joy.
Throughout her life, she was known for her career with Safeway, but it was her sweetness, patience, and unwavering support that truly defined her. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome—whether through her famous chili suppers, Christmas celebrations, her comforting hugs, or her ability to listen without judgment.
She enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, crafting, scrapbooking, calligraphy, reading, sewing and bowling and she shared her talents generously with family, friends, and the community. Her home was always a place of comfort, where holidays were magical and ordinary days felt special. She left no one out, her home, her table, and her heart were always open. Thelma loved traveling and made many friends along the way. Among them were her beloved neighbors, Sharon and Mike Perry who stood by her with kindness, laughter, and unwavering friendship.
She is survived by her children Doug Smith (Kathy), Michael Smith, and Michelle Mullen, twelve grandchildren and many great grandchildren, and by her sister Anne Hollesen. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold Milton Smith, daughter Patricia Puch, siblings Everett Evans, Junior Smith, Eileen Henderson, Pauline Pfab and Martha Joines and great grandson Ryder Wild. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, strength, and family togetherness will live on through the countless lives she touched.
A Celebration of Thelma's Life will be held on December 5th, 2025 at 11:00am at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memory Gardens in Fort Collins, Colorado. Burial and reception to follow.
