

Art Portugal was born in Long Beach, CA on April 11, 1942. He was a devoted, loving husband, father and friend, whose number one priority in life was to provide for those he loved. He passed away on September 14, 2016 after a long illness with Parkinson’s Disease and other complications. He was a high-level sales and marketing executive in the grocery industry for over 50 years, and was well respected by many. In 1996, Art was the Headlite (President) of the Illuminators, which is the most admired grocery industry organization of vendors and suppliers in America. The position of Headlite is an honor and privilege. The Illuminators support the events at two major conventions each year, WAFC (Western Association of Food Chains) Convention and the CGA (California Grocers Association) Convention as well as The Illuminator Scholarship Educational Foundation. He enjoyed water skiing, classic cars and weekend barbeques. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Portugal, 5 children, Matthew Portugal, Megan Portugal, Todd Portugal, Stacey deBruyne and Tami Morrison, 9 grandchildren (Justin, Kendra, Miranda, Reece, Aidan, Courtney, Taite, Evan and Olivia) and 3 sisters, Betty Gregory, Josie Cotton and Mary Pollock.He will be forever in our hearts and truly missed by all privileged enough to have known him.
