Carole McHale Hubbs passed away on June 21st in Anaheim, California at the age of 79, surrounded by her three daughters. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Robert Hubbs and parents Ralph Erbe and Estelle Mahoney. Carole was born in Iowa City, Iowa on September 13, 1936. She moved in her early teens to Phoenix, Arizona, where she graduated from North Phoenix High School. During her freshman year of college at the University of Colorado at Boulder, she met her future husband, Kenneth McHale, and the couple moved to California in 1966 where Carole raised their three daughters. Carole worked to support their family while her husband finished college and began his career. After Kenneth passed away at the age of 40, Carole completed her education, earned a law degree, and began practicing law in California. She married Dr. Robert (Bob) Hubbs in 1982. Upon retirement they returned to Arizona to Sun City West where Carole served as President of the Governing Board of the 25,000 population municipality. She later was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives where she took a leadership role in writing legislation. She performed in the local dance group, the Rhythm Tappers, her favorite social organization. Carole and Bob spent their final years in California, where she devotedly cared for him as Parkinson's and dementia eroded and ultimately took his life just 11 weeks prior to Carole’s death. Throughout her life Carole was active in political and civic affairs. She was a passionate advocate for justice, and particularly focused on serving women and families in need. Her desire to give underprivileged families a voice in the legal system inspired her careers in law and politics. As a legal aid volunteer, a campaign organizer, a long-term municipal board member, a family lawyer, and most recently a representative in the Arizona legislature, Carole undoubtedly impacted many, many lives. Carole is survived by daughters Cyndi McHale, Tracy Stuart, Heather Concklin, sons-in-law Tim Stuart and Craig Concklin, grandchildren Kelsey and Thomas Concklin, Travis and Lilia Stuart and Bob Hubb’s children Beth and Mark Utz, Robert and Janice Hubbs, Bonnie Klotzly and grandchildren Caroline and Julie and Utz, Jason and Paul Hubbs and Holly Klotzly.
