Frank H. Carrillo was born on September 1, 1924, in the city of Esperanza in Santa Ana Canyon, California. He passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on July 9, 2025, at the age of 100, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of dedication, service, and family.
Frank proudly served his country as a US Army Rifleman in the 148th Infantry Regiment during World War II. His courageous service took him to the North Solomons, Southern Philippines, Luzon, and the Guadalcanal. Throughout his military career, he was awarded the Bronze Star Arrowhead, Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. His bravery, sacrifice, and commitment exemplified the highest values of honor and service.
After his honorable discharge from the US Army, ‘Tata’ as he was known by his Family and friends, worked at Anaheim Union Water Company irrigating the numerous orange groves that gave Orange County its name. He continued his work career for the City of Anaheim, working in the water department as a pipefitter until his retirement.
For 75 years, Frank was the devoted husband of Dora Carrillo, a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together they raised a family that was his greatest pride. He is survived by his beloved wife Dora, their five children, eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. His guidance, warmth, and strength will remain forever in their hearts.
Frank’s life was defined by resilience, faith, and generosity and he was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He cherished every moment with his family, sharing stories of his life experiences and instilling in them the values of integrity, humility, and gratitude. He had a passion for backpacking in the great outdoors, tending to his garden, traveling to new places, and dancing with Dora always focused on creating joyful memories that will live on through those who loved him.
Services to celebrate Frank’s life will be held on August 15th, 2025.
