Robert "Bob" Harold Dahl—father, grandfather, great grandfather, pilot, attorney, avid outdoorsman, and a devoted man of faith—passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, in Fullerton, California, at the age of 93.
Born in Duluth, Minnesota, to Harold and Winifred Dahl, Bob was a graduate of St. Thomas Military Academy. At age 19, he relocated to Los Angeles with his family, joined the U.S. Air Force, and began a lifelong love affair with aviation. While attending Loyola University, Bob helped found the Loyola Flyers flying club, earning his pilot’s license in 1955. He also obtained his amateur radio license in 1951, mastering the airwaves just as he mastered the skies.
During his college years, Bob joined the Knights of Columbus and Alpha Tau fraternity. Most significantly, he met Kathleen Homme, a USC undergraduate. They married in 1957, embarking on a 59-year marriage defined by devotion and shared adventures.
Bob enjoyed a distinguished career in private practice, specializing in water and contract law. He and Kathleen raised their family in Los Angeles, spent cherished summers at their family home in Lake Arrowhead, and eventually retired to Morningside in Fullerton where he and Kathleen made many new friends.
A man of boundless curiosity, Bob traveled the globe as a hunter and pilot, returning with thrilling stories of near misses and unforgettable characters—tales often shared over "booze-burgers" with a twinkle in his eye. Yet, his compass was always set by his Catholic faith. He attended Mass daily, seeking out churches in every corner of the world, from dirt-floored chapels in Mexico to remote villages in Africa.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; his sister, Jean Demmon; and his parents. He is survived by his children: John, David (Emily), Patrick (Kristina), James (Amy), and Kathleen (David); as well as seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Juliana Falconieri Church in Fullerton. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arrowhead.
