She was born on May 10, 1943, in Queens, New York, to Richard and Alice (Ubert) Morrison. She was a 1965 graduate of Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. As an educator, she taught English for two years in Watkins Glen, New York. In 1967, she moved to Montgomery County, Maryland, and began teaching English at Thomas W. Pyle Junior High School in Bethesda. It was there that she met her husband, Leon Busche, who taught United States History and Government at Pyle. They were colleagues for several years and were married on August 7, 1976, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Garrett Park, Maryland. They had two daughters, Karen Eileen, born September 25, 1978, and Susan Leigh, born October 25, 1980. In addition to the thirteen years she taught at Pyle, she later taught English for eighteen months at Poolesville High School and for eighteen years at Ridgeview Middle School in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Alice was active in her community, inspiring her daughters to participate in dance, swimming, gymnastics, and music. In 1991, she was a founding member of Our Lady of the Visitation Parish in Darnestown, Maryland, and was an active member of the parish’s Sodality. She had many friends in her Thursday morning coffee group, her school community, and her book club. In the summer of 1993, she and her family took a short Caribbean cruise, and in the summer of 1994, travelled to London, Paris, and Rome.
Her family grew with the marriages of Karen to Bradley Bliven in September of 2001, and Susan to Nicholas Crivella in April of 2007. The family grew even more with the births of her grandchildren, Brady Bliven, Carter Crivella, Sophia Crivella, Brooke Bliven, Claire Crivella, and Owen Bliven. Many happy hours were spent watching them grow and participate in many sports and activities.
Retirement in 2001 after thirty-four years of teaching allowed many travel adventures. She and Leon travelled to the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Russia in Europe and to Egypt in North Africa. They also travelled to Alaska and Hawaii and other states inside the United States, to Canada, and to countries in and around the Caribbean.
Another family tradition was spending a weekend in October each year since 2000 with good friends at Capon Springs and Farms in West Virginia.
She was respected as a friend by many people and will be missed.
