Charles Albert Babendreier

Charles Albert Babendreier passed away in the early morning hours on March 12th 2020 after a brief illness. Charlie was a lifelong resident of the Washington D.C. area. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a Civil Engineering graduate of The Catholic University of America. He attained Masters degrees from George Washington University and the University of Maryland. He retired in 1985 after a distinguished career with the National Science Foundation. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. He was the devoted son of Charles Babendreier and Clarabelle Taylor and loving husband of Mary Ann, his wife of 70 years. He was the patriarch of 15 children, 38 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann (nee Schrider), his sister and husband Mary Lee (Frank) Naples, his children and spouses Reverend Joseph Babendreier, Christopher (Josepha) Babendreier, Carl (Melanie) Babendreier, Ann (Dean) Norwich, Peter (Michele) Babendreier, Bernard (Kitty) Babendreier, Justin (Martha) Babendreier,  Gerard (Nany) Babendreier, Madeline (Ellsworth) Jones, Albert (Berta) Babendreier, Gretchen Babendreier, Katherine (Gary) Glore, Elizabeth (Dave) Hammers, his grandchildren and spouses Sarah (John) Foundas, Sasame (Carlos) Cintron, Zachary Babendreier, Emily (Arkadiy) Finn, Amanda Babendreier, Mavis (Horacio) Norwich, Robert (Angie) Norwich, Jonathan Norwich, Jesse (Kristin)Babendreier, Carly Babendreier, Marcy Babendreier, Rachel (Eric) Jaffe, Megan (Ryan) Babendreier, Benjamin Babendreier, Jake Babendreier, Theresa Babendreier, Nicole Babendreier, Carolyn Babendreier, Stephen Babendreier, Alex Jones, Jordan Jones, Hanna Jones, Charles Babendreier, John Babendreier, Leo Babendreier, Millie MacWilliams, Michael MacWilliams, Callum MacWilliams, Clayton Glore, Grayson Glore, Theodore Glore, Jack Hammers, August Hammers, and Violet Hammers. His great grand-children Brylee Loverde, Dimitri, Aidan and Lucas Foundas, Liam and Rowan Cintron, Leonard, Abraham and Isaac Finn, Michael Norwich, Isla Jaffe, Parker, Emma and Avery Hughes.

He is proceeded into heaven by his mother and father Clarabelle and Charles, his children Mary Teresa and John Babendreier, his brother and wife Robert “Skip” (Ethyl) Babendreier, his mother in law Mary Frances Schrider, his brothers and wives in law William “Skippy” (Chizuko) Schrider, Bernard “Buddy” (Regina) Schrider, his grand-children Stella MacWilliams and Ezekiel “Oak” Babendreier.

Viewing and services will be held privately due to social-distancing protocols suggested by the Centers of Disease Control (CDC).
