Craig Charles Scott, aged 69, passed away on February 9, 2024, after a brief illness. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather (CC), brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Born in Detroit, MI on March 1,1954, he was the son of the late Charles Frederick Scott and Elizabeth Sehn Scott. Craig is survived by his wife, Judith Parker Scott, his sons, Thomas Parker Clamp (Dawn) of Baltimore, MD, Charles William Scott (Jessica) of Centreville, VA, and James Francis Scott of Germantown, MD, and three grandchildren: Bryson James Clamp, Madelyn Grace Clamp, and Oliver William Scott. His sister, Cynthia Ann Scott of Detroit, MI also survives him.
Craig served in the United States Navy after being commissioned as an Ensign following graduation from the United States Naval Academy in 1976. Craig spent his active-duty career in the Nuclear Navy serving on various Fast Attack submarines: including, as the Engineer Officer on the Nuclear-Powered USS Indianapolis. Following transition to the reserves, Craig completed his 20-year career and retired at the rank of Commander. Craig next moved to the commercial nuclear power world working as the Maintenance Manager at the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant in New York. Moving to the Washington, DC area in 1988, Craig worked for EG&G as a support service contractor to the Department of Energy (DOE). Craig transitioned to a federal employee in 1990 where he was assigned as the headquarters Office Director for the restart of the tritium production reactor at Savannah River. He was also studying for his law degree at George Washington University which he received in 1994. Craig’s next assignment saw him responsible for transitioning the Defense Programs nuclear weapons production facilities to the newly formed Environmental Management Program. After handling the transitioning of Rocky Flats and several smaller facilities, Craig focused on operational and nuclear safety as both an Office Director and Program Manager for the remainder of his federal career before retiring in 2014.
In his free time, Craig enjoyed exercising, flying as a private pilot, hiking, backpacking, skydiving, camping and attending Navy football games. He loved traveling the world with his beloved wife, Judith Ann, to whom he was married for 40 years. Craig was always eager to share his travel knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
More than anything, Craig was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and sharing stories. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement no matter what challenges they faced. He was very active in family life and enjoyed helping them with their “fix it” problems.
