

He died peacefully at his home in Washington DC, on December 28, 2020, after a valiant battle with melanoma.
David is survived by his wife of fifty eight years, Magda Jane Jegher; his daughters, Elizabeth and Christina; sons-in-law Jose Miguel and Andrea; and four grandchildren, Bernardo, Arabella, Livia and Marina. David is also survived by his loving cousin, Susi who lives in Del Mar, California.
David attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated from Harvard University in 1958. From 1958 to 1959, he served in the United States Army. Following his service, David embarked on a long and illustrious career at the State Department as a Foreign Service officer in various capacities.
He was posted to Genova, Italy in 1959 where he met and married Magda Jane Jegher, his wife.
David served as Vice Consul General in Genova until being posted to Brussels and then eventually returning to Washington DC. There, he worked under Elliot Richardson until transferring first to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and then serving as Assistant Deputy of Commerce under Jimmy Carter.
In 1981, David co-founded The Consultants International Group with Gerard C. Smith, Henry Owen and Dale E. Hathaway. In 1991 David took over the business and continued it for almost forty five years.
His area of expertise and passion was international trade and business between Italy, Japan and the USA.
He took personal pride in all his professional relationships. David received perhaps the most acclaim for his ability to navigate and change existing trade laws in order to bring the prized Italian Prosciutto di Parma and other items to the United States.
David was an avid and gifted tennis player, a voracious mystery book reader, and a lover of opera and classical music.
He was also a proponent for education and health. David sat on the board of many causes and charities that promoted access to good education and health research.
Beyond all this, David was a great husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother (his three brothers preceded him in death), son, cousin. He was a source of comfort and wisdom to all his family.
