Diana Carrasco de Castro was born in Lima, Peru, on March 20, 1960, to Genaro Carrasco and Juana Vargas. The eldest of six children, Diana experienced profound loss at a young age when her mother and sister tragically passed away in a car accident in Cusco, Peru. At just 12 years old, she stepped into a maternal role, helping raise her younger siblings and supporting her father in running the household.
After graduating from high school, Diana pursued an associate degree in Accounting. At the age of 22, she met the love of her life, Walter Castro. Just six months later, they were married on July 30, 1982. As a devoted wife and mother, Diana always put her family first. She and Walter built a beautiful life together, raising three children—Jean Pierre, Paul, and Stephanie.
During the 1980s and 1990s, Diana and Walter successfully ran a construction business in Arequipa, Peru. However, due to increasing hardships and government corruption, the family made the difficult decision to migrate to Maryland in 2001 in search of a better future.
Despite the challenges of starting over in a new country, Diana worked tirelessly to maintain a loving home while balancing full-time work. She took great pride in her faith, making Sunday Mass a family tradition and a source of strength and joy. When her children were older, she pursued a career as a dental assistant, completing a one-year certification program with determination and passion.
Diana had a gift for bringing people together. She was the heart of every gathering, always ensuring her family remained close. She found immense joy in becoming a grandmother to five grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Nony.” She showered them with love, always ready to babysit, help, and create lasting memories.
Diana will always be remembered for her boundless kindness, unwavering faith, radiant smile, and selfless love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and joy that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Her spirit will forever shine in the lives she touched.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rose of Lima, 11701 Clopper Rd, Gaithersburg, MD starting at 11:00am, followed by a burial at All Souls Cemetery, Germantown, MD.
