

He was the beloved father of Ella Fischer Raineri; loving son of the late Eugene Robert Raineri Sr. and Jeanette Vitek Raineri; brother of Linda Gregory and her late husband Jack Gregory, Gloria Trevethan , Mark Raineri and wife Ellen, Wayne Raineri and significant other Ms. Toni Funck, Kenneth Raineri and wife Andrea.
A native of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Gene graduated from Kings College there, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Sociology. He then received his law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law before obtaining an L.L.M in taxation from Temple University, in Philadelphia.
While in law school, Gene worked as a student law clerk for the Oklahoma Supreme Court the state’s Corporation Commission. After receiving his law degree, he worked as a clerk at the Superior Court of Pennsylvania in Wilkes-Barre.
Arriving in Washington in the 1980s, he began a long career as a tax attorney at the Internal Revenue Service. He worked there over 30 years, retiring in 2018.
Baseball was an early passion for Gene and he had a stint in the minor leagues, playing for the Auburn (N.Y.) Phillies in the New York-Penn League. Later in life he enjoyed playing racquetball and tennis.
Most of all, though, he was devoted to Ella, attending her soccer and basketball games and always encouraging her to do her best. Gene and Ella shared a love for their lively dog, Oliver, who also survives him.
Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 10:30 to 11:30with graveside services to be held at All Souls Cemetery, Germantown, MD at 12 Noon.
