Faith Genevieve Codd of Montgomery Village, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday, January 4th, 2025. She was the cherished wife of Dr. Joseph D. Codd and the devoted mother of Daniel Patrick Codd, Joseph Timothy ("J.T.") Codd, Heather Kathleen (Claudio) Tannure, John Gregory (Angelica) Codd, and Karen Elizabeth Codd (Nick) Martin, and grandmother to Dominic, Claudinho, Gabriela, Leo, Ana.
Born and raised in North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Faith was the second of six children. Following in the footsteps of her mother, Jane, she earned a degree in childhood education from Marian College and embarked on a lifelong passion for teaching.
In 1965, during her first year of teaching, she met her future husband, Joe Codd, a student of dentistry at Marquette University. Upon marrying, Faith embraced life as a military wife, traveling throughout the United States and as far away as South Korea with their five children. Faith brought joy and warmth to every place they lived, creating a welcoming home and building strong connections within each community. The family home now reflects all the Memories and Love she brought into the lives of her family and friends. The walls are adorned with multiple generations of family photos, religious art, dried leaves and flowers, children's art, and everything she saw as God's perfect creation. Needless to say, each and every surface is covered, bearing witness to Faith's vibrant creative spirit and love for her family.
In 1983, the Codds settled in Montgomery Village, Maryland, where they planted roots and built a life centered around faith, family, and love for their community.
Here, Faith joyfully returned to her calling as a teacher, sharing her motherly compassion and contagious zest for all things Godly with her 2nd and 4th grade students at Mother of God School. She had a gift for nurturing young minds and instilling a love of learning in her students, many of whom still remember her fondly years later. Her faith was not confined to the classroom; she also taught CCD at St. John Newmann and shared her gift of creativity, art, and her love of God with students at a local Chinese school in Rockville, Maryland. Throughout, Faith always made time for her precious grandchildren, showering them with love and nurturing their spirits.
Faith's life was a testament to her unwavering trust in God, a light that shone brightly on everyone she met. She lived each day filled with His grace, a grace that sustained her until the very end.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H.P. and Jane Kohl; her siblings, Tom Kohl and Ann Kohl Re; her sister-in-law, Jeanne Kohl; her son, J.T., daughter-in-law, Cristie, and granddaughter, Skylar Codd. While Faith's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, she is now reunited with those who have gone before, finding peace and joy in the eternal embrace of God's love.
